My Thanks

My thanks to the veterans of Cecil County and to all veterans and their families for service to their country. My name is Lon D. Campbell and for many years, 40 to be precise, I have worked for and with the veteran community in a variety of capacities and functions. My role primarily has been as a counselor and advocate for veterans and their families.

In this role I most recently have been the Team Leader at the Vet Center in Elkton, MD, as part of Readjustment Counseling Services with the Department of Veterans Affairs. This assignment began in 1985 and ran until I was injured in January 2008, which resulted in my being forced into early retirement from the U.S. Government. I also worked for five years as a counselor at the same facility prior to being the Team Leader. Prior to that, I worked for eight years at the Perry Point VAMC as a psychiatric aide on the psychiatric wards at that facility and two years in the U.S. Army as a casualty escort, which counted toward my government service.

This diverse and varied role toward the veteran community resulted in a multitude of experiences and rewards for which I am extremely thankful and blessed. The most blessed and thankful has to be my honor of serving veterans and their families throughout our community. This has known no normal bounds, as the veterans have allowed me to serve them as I best see fit and they have given me free rein. For that I am most grateful, and I give them my thanks and utmost praise.

Due to my injury, I will no longer be able to serve them as I would most like, but I will continue to in some capacity as my health permits. Again, thanks to all veterans for serving their country and to their families for supporting them and to the community who stands in further support of all their efforts to serve.

Sincerely,

Lon D. Campbell
