Hugh releases new CD

Zane at the Birchmere

Zane’s New Album: Ola Wave

Zane recently released a new album featuring his aunt Ola Belle’s music. Entitled Ola Wave, which is Ola Belle’s given name (she changed her name when she became a performer), it includes Zane’s song of that title, as well as several songs written by Ola Belle. Zane’s art at American Visionary Art Museum

Starting on October 8, 2016, and running until September 3, 2017, several of Zane’s pieces of artwork will be included in “Yummm! The History, Fantasy, and Future of Food,” an exhibit at the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore. Details here: http://www.avam.org/exhibitions/yummm-show.shtml. Ola Belle Reed and Southern Mountain Music on the Mason-Dixon Line is available!

The new book and CD set, Ola Belle Reed and Southern Mountain Music on the Mason-Dixon Line, written by Henry Glassie, Clifford Murphy, and Douglas Peach, is available for purchase here: https://www.dust-digital.com. It covers Ola Belle’s legacy and the music of the next generation of southern musicians who migrated north during the Depression. Hugh and Zane are featured in the book and CD.

The American Folklife Center is sponsoring a concert in celebration of Ola Belle’s legacy at the Library of Congress on September 9 and a symposium on September 10 of musicians and scholars discussing the impact of her legacy on today’s traditional music.
